Love in a Barrel
& other short stories
These stories are the skeletons of stories as they parr down and peel back revelations to expose the marrow of the tale. Each story, and the argument can be made if they are all stories, however, each abstract work of art aims to reveal some deeper element concerning the meaning of humanness and kindness.
In the story, Love in a Barrel, myth, memory, and self-forgiveness lead to a telephone conversation between a mother and her son.
The conversation reveals an aspect of the nature of self-forgiveness. The process is long and complex “or looking for love in a barrel…” “It is sad.”
A very different story is The Hour of A Story, is a modern inspiration based on Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour.” The main characters in The Hour of A Story is a gay couple, Peter and Paul, although their love is a character, their sexual orientation is pervasive. The story utilizes the connective tissue of grief to reveal its human-kindness. The stories provoke meditations on diverse topics such as what it is to be, to be human, and forgiveness. They explore the magical realism of memory.
